Effect of Superoxide Dismutase

چکیده
This study assesses the effect of the superoxide anion scavenger superoxide dismutase on myocardial capillary permeability-surface area (PS) products for small hydrophilic molecules after ischemia and reperfusion. Open-chest dogs underwent a 20-minute occlusion of the left anterior descending coronary artery followed by 1 hour of reperfusion. Myocardial plasma flow rate and capillary extraction of chromium 51-labeled EDTA or technetium 99m-labeled diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid were measured by the single-injection, residue-detection method before ischemia and 5 and 60 minutes after the start of reperfusion. In 13 dogs, no scavenger treatment was given (nonprotected control group), whereas eight dogs were treated systemically with 15,000 units/kg superoxide dismutase during 1 hour, starting 20 minutes before ischemia. In the control group, three dogs developed reperfusion ventricular fibrillation in contrast to none in the superoxide dismutase group. Before ischemia, plasma flow rate, myocardial capillary extraction fraction, and PS values were similar in the two groups. Five minutes after the start of reperfusion, plasma flow rate increased significantly (p<O0.01) in both groups. In the control group, capillary extraction fraction increased by 12% (p=NS) in spite of the higher plasma flow; these increases in capillary extraction fraction and plasma flow induced

EFFECT OF 8 WEEKS OF INCREMENTAL ENDURANCE TRAINING ON THE ACTIVITY OF SUPEROXIDE DISMUTASE ENZYME AND MALONDIALDEHYDE LEVELS OF CARDIAC TISSUE OF RATS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES
Background: Diabetes and its oxidative stress increase the effects of this disease on heart tissue. On the other hand, exercise improves the antioxidant status of heart tissue. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of 8 weeks of increased endurance training on superoxide dismutase activity and malondialdehyde levels in the heart tissue of mice with type 2 diabetes. Methods: In th...
متن کاملThe Effect of Normobaric Hyperoxia on Superoxide Dismutase Activity and Neurologic Deficits in Huntington Animal Model
Introduction: resent studies have been shown that normobaric hyperoxia (HO) can induce excitotoxicity and stress oxidative tolerance (ETT) in variety of organs such as brain. In this study, we examined the intermittent dose of normobaric hyperoxia (HO) on neurologic deficit, and superoxide dismutase activity in brain tissue of Huntington animal model. Method: The rats were divided to three...

متن کاملThe antioxidant effect of hesperetin and nano-hesperetin on activity of catalase and superoxide dismutase enzymes in the hippocampus of animal model of Parkinson's disease
Background and objectives: Hesperetin flavanone is a natural bioflavonoid found abundantly in citrus fruits with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Nano sizing techniques improve the bioavailability of poorly soluble drugs such as hesperetin. Main feature of Parkinson's disease is the degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra. The rate of oxidative...
متن کاملGalectin 1 and Superoxide Dismutase are Involved in Wound Healing by Larval Therapy
Galectin-1 and superoxide dismutase are two known molecules in the wound healing process that induce such healing by different mechanisms in the wound site. Larval therapy is one of the methods use by Lucilia sericata fly larvae, nowadays returned to the list of therapeutic methods despite chronic diabetic ulcers and antibiotic resistance of bacteria. In this study, we aimed to evaluat...

Superoxide dismutase play important roles in iron-respiratory bacteria such as Geobacteraceae as an antioxidant defense, and probably an effective enzyme of electron transfer network. Regarding the application of iron-respiratory bacteria in environmental biotechnology particularly biodegradation and bioremediation, understanding the mechanism of inhibition/induction of superoxide dismutase by ...
